Terms of Service

The rules for using Jama. The short version: Jama keeps the record, it never touches your money, and your group's financial arrangement is between its members.

Effective date: 29 September 2026

Jama is operated by Passhai Technologies Private Limited (CIN U62011UP2025PTC237086), a company incorporated in India with its registered office at Plot No. A4, Logix Technova, Sector 132, Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar – 201304, Uttar Pradesh, India (“Jama”, “we”, “us”). These Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy apply to the Jama Android app, the Jama WhatsApp experience and any related services (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to both.

1. What Jama is

Jama is a recordkeeping and coordination tool for rotating savings and credit groups (chit funds, committees, kameti). It helps an organiser track contributions, payouts, bidding and rotation, and helps members follow along and record their own activity.

Jama never handles, moves, holds or has access to your money. No payment, transfer or settlement of any kind happens inside the app. Where the app shows a UPI address for a payout, that is for your convenience in opening your own UPI app to send payment directly, person to person. Jama is not a party to that transaction and never sees it complete. All actual money exchanges happen entirely outside the app, by whatever means the group's members agree to.

Jama is not a payments product, a bank, a lender or a chit fund operator. It is software that records what members tell it happened.

2. Accounts

  • You sign in with your phone number, verified by one-time passcode. Your phone number is your identity on Jama.
  • You are responsible for keeping access to your phone number and device secure. Anyone with both can access your account.
  • You must provide accurate information and use the Service lawfully.

3. Organisers and members

  • An organiser creates a committee, sets its terms (contribution amount, frequency, rotation or bidding format, penalties), and records events like payouts and defaults.
  • A member joins a committee an organiser adds them to, and can record their own contributions, place bids and take part in slot exchanges where enabled.
  • Jama does not verify, guarantee, mediate or take responsibility for any committee's actual financial arrangement. Disputes between organisers and members, non-payment, fraud between members, or any other real-world financial disagreement are between those people. Jama does not investigate or arbitrate them and is not liable for them. The app is a shared record, not a guarantee that the record is true; it only reflects what was entered.

4. The WhatsApp channel

Jama offers an optional way to take part in a committee over WhatsApp, for people who don't want to install the app. If you use it:

  • You choose to interact via WhatsApp; nothing about it is automatic or assumed.
  • Certain actions (placing a bid, marking a payment, responding to a committee) require Jama to hold cryptographic signing authority on your behalf for that purpose, since there is no app on your device to hold it for you. We ask for your explicit agreement, in plain language on WhatsApp itself, before any such key is created. It is never a hidden default. See the Privacy Policy for what this technically means.
  • You can stop receiving Jama messages on WhatsApp at any time by replying STOP (or the equivalent option the message gives you).

5. Prohibited uses

You agree not to: use Jama for any unlawful purpose; impersonate someone else; attempt to access another user's account or another committee's data; interfere with or disrupt the Service; or use the Service to facilitate fraud against other users.

6. Termination and account deletion

You may stop using Jama at any time. To request deletion of your account and associated data, email [email protected] as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms.

7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Passhai Technologies Private Limited is not liable for any financial loss, dispute or damage arising from a committee's actual financial arrangement, from another user's actions, or from use of the Service. Jama records what it is told; it does not guarantee, insure or enforce it.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the update. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date above.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Uttar Pradesh, shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
